Visiting the IDF Paratroopers

One of Christian Friends of Israel's outreach projects is to the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). CFI calls the Project David's Shield. On November 28th, we took a break from our regular duties to prepare 1000 "care packages" for the IDF. In the care package, designed for winter, was a fleece neckwear / hat; heavy duty warm gloves; large chocolate bar; an IDF poster with an encouraging scripture verse; and a small pocket-size verse for encouragement. Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6. The way we assembled the packages was productive, unique, and fun. First all the lunch tables were turned side to side. Second the five items plus plastic sacks were placed on top of the tables. Then "musical chairs" began. Each one of us would pick up a plastic bag and begin walking arouind the tables placing the items in the bag as we go. While walking back to the other end of the lunch room we would tie a knot in the plastic bag, drop it off at another table, then start the circle again. There were 10-12 volunteers walking around the table one behind the other. It was a good time for fellowship, laughter, and accomplishing an important task. In a couple of hours, we had 1000 care packages ready for delivery. On Thursday, December 6th, the Project Coordinator of David's Shield, Karen, graciously asked me if I wanted to go with her to deliver some of the care packages. We loaded 600 care packages and headed out. Below is the entrance to the IDF Paratrooper base we visited. If you zoom in on the logo, you can see a parachute in the middle of the design.

Below young men in the IDF are unloading our packages. In each "suitcase" is 25 care packages. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 15:27 For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their (the Jews) spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in material things.

Below the two young men inside wanted me to be sure and get their picture. So I did. In addition to the soldiers of this base the majority of the care packages will be sent to the Golani Brigade stationed closer to Gaza. The Golani Brigade is an elite force in the IDF and usually in the middle of the danger. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler.....His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, .... A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.... Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, Psalm 91. Our escort invited us to go with him in a couple of weeks. We wil have to see exactly when that trip is. What a privilege.

Below the base is presenting Karen with a very special bottle of Olive Oil with the Paratroopers Logo on it. A friend loves at all times...Proverbs 17:7

Below the Lord provided a good breeze all day so the Israeli flag could be proudly displayed.

Below even in the IDF bases beautiful floral can be found in December. ...Israel shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit. Isaiah 27:6

Below the Israeli and Paratroopers flag. Most of the base visit and tour I considered confidential and did not take photos. These photos are pretty generic.

In the 2006 Lebanon War, this particular unit suffered a high percentage of the young men who perished. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13 Below we were accompanied to a Memorial Room that is being built for them. In January, there will be a dedication with all the parents, spouses, and close relatives invited. CFI has an opportunity to particpate in the completion of this memorial room. Truly a chance to show the love of the Lord Jesus for his brethren. And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Matthew 25:40

Below in the soon to be completed Memorial Room. The young man on the left was born in Mission Viejo, CA. He left when he 8 years old and would like to visit there again sometime.

Below these could be barracks. Living conditions for the IDF would not be the same standard as those who serve in the US Armed Forces. Overall it was very enjoyable and rewarding day. It was a pleasure to be representing CFI with those who are defending God's Land. Everyone knows war could always be around the corner. Perhaps CFI will be in a strategic postion to bring honor and glory to the Lord Jesus who sits on the throne: "This is the word of the LORD .. ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6.
